this group completes my first delivery of spring pieces; time to start the next batch! but first this week i'm working on my outfit for siamese twins in the Cherry Blossom Circus this friday at secret project robot, the kickoff to Williamsburg Fashion Weekend 2007. i'll post all the details later in the week, swear!

these tunics are my first group that use a technique i've been thinking about for a while: self-fabric crochet, meaning that the crochet at the neckline is made using thin cut strips of the same fabric that the tunic is cut from. i'm still working out the kinks; it's tricky to keep the neckline laying flat, and the strips have to be cut extremely thin to keep the crochet from getting too thick. but i am pretty happy with the results so far...

wrapped!

this is the first batch of new spring wraps! they are all made of cotton stretch jersey, with stencilled discharge prints of crochet doilies.

i am still wearing my wool wraps but i can't wait to adopt one of these cotton ones as soon as it warms up just a bit more. these work better open than the longer winter ones, but wrap just as cozily...

...and i still keep discovering new ways to wear them!

all of these were delivered to treehouse and sodafine last week, and at least one has already sold!

sprung at last!

the first batch of spring 07 hodge podge is out the door... hooray! 14 pieces (all tunics and wraps-- i'll post the rest over the next few days) made their debut at treehouse and sodafine last thursday, and a few more will be delivered to lingo later this week. i feel such a relief, yet this was just the beginning of all i plan to do this season... skirts are next.

all of these tunics incorporate doilies; most are the vintage ones i've been scooping up at flea markets but the peach one below and the orange and red one at the bottom of this post are ones i made.

etsy labs crochet class moved to may

we have rescheduled the crochet class i am teaching at etsy labs to sundays (may 27, june 3rd and 10th) from noon to 2. only one person had signed up for the initial class time, which was to be mondays from 4 to 6pm, a pretty tough time slot to fill but we were being optimistic!

introduction to crochet techniques $90

in this class you will learn all the basics of crochet (chain, single, double and triple crochet stitches) and how to use them to whip up scarves, hats, amigurumi and infinite other possibilities! we will learn shaping and circular crochet, as well as stitch patterns like meshes, scallops and bobbles. you'll begin a scarf in the first class and continue on to either a hat or shawl by the end of the session. happy hooking! supplies provided.
there are only 8 spaces available in total so sign up quickly!

you can click on the panda button in the sidebar to register.
also check out all the other fantabulous classes they offer!

i can't wait to check out the labs in person... these photos are from their flickr page and they are so inspiring, especially for a space-challenged new yorker like myself. they have a lot of great equipment, and if you become a PAL (Patron of the Labs) you'll have full access to the facilities plus 10% off all classes! for even more info and pics check out this excellent article that kayte wrote.

spring is springing!

every week when we have our stitch jam at treehouse, we first have to check out the new stuff that's come in... last week there was so much fun new spring-y stuff we had to have a little impromptu fashion show! amylou and i modelled the newest bobbi creations, (we couldn't decide who liked which one better!) and then i tried on one of siri's heavenly dresses she's making from vintage quilt squares.
